Grand Prix!
Start planning your pine car! There will be three divisions this year: kids, youth, and adults. Cars are availble for purchase for $3, which includes your entry fee into the competition. Detailed rules and instructions will be included in the kit with your car. Trophies in each division will be for speed and design, as well as the annual People's Choice Award.
Dates to keep in mind are: Body Shop, March 24th & 31st; Weigh-in, April 7th; People Choice Car Show, April 11th; and the race, April 14th. During Body Shop, adult leaders will help you make a rough cut to shape your car. Sanding, painting, and finishing can then be done at home. During Weigh-in, one lane of the track will be open so you can make sure your car has the weight and alignment to complete a heat; only one car at a time will be allowed on the track.
During the Car Show, cars will be displayed and the congregation will be able to vote for their favorites in each division. Then comes Race night!
Before the races, the judges will rate the cars' woodworking, paint job, creativity, and overall appearance to determine design winners. The cars will then be raced, once on each lane of the track, earning points for each first, second, or third place finish. The top three point earners for each division will be our speed winners!
